Beautiful Countryside

Arrived at the residency yesterday after a 90 minute train trip from Wellington to Masterton and we were greeted by Kay Flavell - director of the New Pacific Studios. It was then time for Poppy and I shop for groceries and then drive up the highway to Mt Bruce and settle into our rooms and see our studio set up.

After a gentle walk down to the small stream at the base of the range and a walk around the picturesque grounds - seen here in the picture above, we proceeded to unpack and get further acquainted over dinner and some local wine.

This morning we visited the Pukaha Mount Bruce - a wildlife sanctuary that houses a native kiwi colony with some amazing birdlife too. The visit included watching baby kiwis being hand fed and also viewing some interesting films about the sanctuary and how the habitat is preserving part of New Zealand native heritage

Wellington arrival 22nd October

Here we go again.  My third residency blog. First was coast>desert artists at Broken Hill 2009 - 2011, then One Month in Berlin during 2009 and now NEW ZEALAND!

This time Poppy Benton and myself will be in the land of the Long White Cloud = Double Trouble!

The residency is at New Pacific Studios on the north island of New Zealand at Mt Bruce. I will be departing for a three day visit in Wellington on Saturday 22nd - meet up with Poppy and then we can visit the famous te papa museum, check out the gallery scene and then head to Masterton via rail on Tuesday. The manager of the studios, Kay Flavell, will meet Poppy and I at the station then we shop for some groceries before making the drive to Mt Bruce and then our work begins.

KEEP POSTED and Follow the journey.
